Figure Competition for old ladies ;)

I am a 41 year old mom of four. I weigh 170 lbs. Obviously, I am in no place to enter a figure competition, nor do I ever plan on entering one (unless they have an old lady division :). Anyway, I've always wanted to get that in shape and have been close a few times, but every time I got pregnant and lost all my fitness. My youngest is in preschool and will start kindergarten next year, so I feel like I will have time to get back in the gym in the foreseeable future.

My question is, are there any good plans, books, etc to start following? I figure if I take the next year to lose weight and build my base of lifting and fitness again I could probably get close next year. Am I crazy? I truly don't think I actually want to compete, but I'd love to go through all the steps to get there.

My opinion is, if you're going to go through the steps to get there, you would want to go through with it. :) It is very rigorous and time consuming training, along with the on spot eating.

Bobybuilding.com in the female forums have women over 40 who compete, usually they are either personal trainers themselves or they use a personal trainer.
