Apple Earbuds as a HRM???

What is up with my earbuds? I randomly/sometimes get a HR when I'm on the treadmill. It's mine (not someone else close by), it's consistent with me, and once it shows up, it keeps reading for the duration of my time on the treadmill.

I'd like it to function all the time, so if it is an actual feature of the product, how do I get it to turn on...on purpose?

It's Apple, so of course there are no instructions that came with them, nor description of features on the item, nor do the people working in the store know anything about them.

I tried to Google it but can't find any answers.

That's odd. I do know that the MotoACTV's headphones were an HRM, albeit an unreliable one. They curled around the back of the ear and got a beat from that vein back there. Maybe you're really thumpin' your beats? :)

    :)

It's got to be the blood pumping through my ears. It kind of makes sense.

    But my music is loud.
