Today is the day I take back control. Im sick and tired of being sick and tired! I will be 50 in February not lookin forward to that! I had my 1st grandbaby this year. I WILL NOT be fat n old!!! So its clean eating and uping my exercise! How do you start running? I have always walked but when it comes to running YUCK! I know that would be a good way to increase my activity level, but how do you get started? Ive done Weight Watchers in the past and love the support you get but I need a huge shake up with my eating as well. So do you think calorie counting is the best way? Looking for motivation and creativity!! thanks ya'll!! m

You go girl! Check out the exercise database for ideas of other forms of exercise. I ran a lot when I was younger but the pounding doesn't agree with my knees anymore. I've found that adding a little resistance to any form of exercise helps considerably in burning more calories. Compare walking on a treadmill to walking with an incline... great increase in calorie burn! Keep up the great attitude!0

Go for it! Weight loss is down to a calorie deficit so calorie counting has to be the way to go. I can eat what I like when I like while calorie counting, its so simple if I eat too much then I have to work a bit harder to earn some exercise calories to maintain the deficit.
But do be careful not to overestimate the exercise calories.0 -
Calorie counting works...and for me it is the easiest way to lose weight. As for running I have been doing the C25K program...9 week program that takes you from short runs up to a 5K. I have had really good luck with this! Good luck on your new journey!0

I too am fast approaching 50 and would like to take control of my eating so that it does not control me. I guess most women of our age know what works for them, I certainly do, but sticking to it can be so hard. I used to run quite a lot, even completing a full marathon a few years back. However, I have lost all motivation to run and would welcome being part of a support network. For me the hardest part is getting out of the door. After that whether you walk or run, or both, you are guaranteed to return home feeling physically and mentally better.
I have never posted on this type of forum before, but recognise your sentiment as being close to how I feel. Good luck to you, lets be 50 and fabulous!0 -
You can do it  calorie counting works as weight loss relies on a deficit; I never could get my head around WeightWatchers or any of the other main diet strategies!0

Congrats on deciding to take control. That is step 1.
Calorie counting and choosing good foods is definitely a step in the right direction.
Moving your body in any form every day - even for a few minutes - is wonderful.
Stay with it. Don't give up, even when you have a bad day or a cheat day or a low day. Make each day count. One step at a time!0
