Polar in combination with Fitbit

Does anyone use a combo of fitness items like this? I'm getting the Fitbit flex for Christmas, but was also kind of wanting to go ahead with a Polar Watch. Any suggestions, helpful info. Is it just overdoing to have both?

I have both a fitbit zip and a polar fit 4. I admit I don't use the HRM any more but used to use it lots when I first got it.
I use the fitbit zip to estimate my daily activity level & used the Polar fit 4 for cardio.

Since I don't do cardio anymore, I rarely use my HRM but my fitbit stays pinned to me 24/7. HRM are not good at estimating caloric burns when weight training & it's the only other form of exercise I get besides daily activity.

If you do a great deal of cardio or plan to, I'd say the HRM is a good thing.

I just use the polar but as I understand it the fitbit is not as accurate for cardio, as I have allowance for daily activity on here then the polar along with known VO2max allows me to calculate exercise calories fairly accurately. I use the basic polar £30 and it does the job.

Bumping for reference. I have both, but rarely use the Polar, or log cardio as I wear by Fitbit One 100% of the time, or really close, so I just count those "exercise" calories. It's been fairly accurate to the Polar when I compare based on the fact that I put "sedentary" in my profile since I do a desk job. I even wear the Fitbit when I run, and it seems to be accurate. Where it doesn't get the calories is my weight training and cycling that I do. I have to log that, so I think I'll try to wear the Polar more often for that. It is a pain though. :/

Thanks for the input! I do a lot of cardio, Zumba 3x a week and walking 3.1 miles twice a week. Thinking of starting 30 day shred as well. I think I'll go ahead and get the polar in the meantime until Christmas when I get he fitbit flex.

I only use my Polar now for cardio that I know is more than what Fitbit picks up because it's only tracking steps. Just brisk walking or sometimes ever running I just leave to the Fitbit but things like 30 day shred I use the Polar because it tracks my exertion level. I use the Polar for cycling as well.

i just got my fitbit and its been confusing after i synced my fitnesspal account with fitbit. I wear my polar ft7 for cardio(cycling etc) and leave my fitbit in the locker. the calories burnt on my polar in being input into fitnesspal.

    1. Fitbit does not seem to add these calories
    2. the food eaten does not reflect in fitbit

which app do i use as master view, how do i reconcile the 3?

I have both but don't really use the polar anymore as I mostly walk for cardio and use TDEE-20% anyway.

I'm guessing at least some of the zumba would register with the fitbit though, so you wouldn't really be able to trust the polar numbers entirely.
