Muti vitamims

Which brand do you take? Brand name Only or do you use generics? I am current taking equate one daily women's pro-active dietary supplement (which is comparable to One-A-Day Women's Active Metabolism)

I would be what you call a yo-yo dieter (do really well for a couple weeks, then really bad, and repeat) but try to make healthy choices for myself and my family. As a family we have worked really hard at making healthier choices. In May my husband and I set new goals and rest out fitness pal settings... I have lost about 8 and my husband has lost about 25.

When it comes to supplements you definitely do NOT want to go the cheap route. The cheaper supplements are mostly fillers and the vitamins tend not to get absorbed into your body as much as the higher quality brands. yes, they're more expensive but worth the investment in the long run. No point in taking cheap vitamins if they don't work for ya!

The whole family takes a Centrum for Men blend from Costco. When we compared the nutrients in them the Centrum for Men had higher numbers in most categories than the Centrum for Women tablets except for items that were not a concern for the family. So, from a cost perspective we figured more for less was a better deal.

I take Equaline Century, which are a Centrum equivalent from Supervalu Grocery Chain (Farm Fresh Stores, etc). I can definitely tell a difference in supplements that work & those that don't. I'll try the store brand & if it works, then I use it, if it doesn't then I go w/a bigger, but still reasonable brand like Sundown, Vitamin Shoppe, or Nature Made. Many of the cheaper brands are the exact same vitamins as the name brands, bottled in the same factories, they just slap a different label on them. The only supplement I've found that I needed a specific brand on was glucosamine/chondroitin, for that I only get results w/Osteo Bi-Flex by Sundown. In my experience, the people who REALLY, REALLY push for ONLY name brands, are usually pushing for ONLY one particular name brand, & often it's something they sell. I'm sure the expensive ones are good too, but I'd just rather go w/the cheaper brands that still work & save my money for other things. Same goes for the meal replacement shakes...I'd rather spend my money on REAL food, that I can chew. Glad people lose weight on them, but you can do it just as well the old fashioned way.

That's a pretty outrageous statement to not be sourcing.

I use the Kirkland (Costco) version of One A Day multi - same stuff in it, same amount of vitamins and minerals, and cheaper.

I second the "you get what you pay for " comment that was made earlier, there isn't anything wrong with taking a cost effective multivitamin but if you want to get more, do a little research into what's important to you for your needs and there are higher quality supplements available. Knowledge is power, and there's a lot of really interesting information out there about supplements. Fish oil - omega 3- in particular is one to make sure you have a high quality form of, it can actually be really detrimental if it becomes oxidized - and it doesn't start to have a bad odor until it is at a late stage of oxidation.
On the other hand you can get omega-3s from flaxseed oil, walnuts, chia seeds ect. As well as hey, fish. Lol so you don't have to worry about high quality fish oil if you supplement your diet.

I'm taking a number multi vitamin of a Swiss brand that's widely popular in local pharmacies. When I was choosing the vitamins, a pharmacist recommended that brand over the other one. She said I should always consider natural vitamin supplement over the synthetic vitamins.
