GNC Protein Number - do you find it helpful?

So, I recently got a GNC gold card (to support my Quest Bar habit, haha), & I happened to take their "Protein Number" quiz online. I put in my weight, sex, and goals (muscle gain) & was surprised to get 45 g as my number.

That seems super duper low, especially for a protein pusher like GNC! To be honest, I'm not sure how to get only 45 g of protein a day... I eat around 2,000 calories a day, sometimes 2,500. I would have to be carbing it up to get such a low protein amount & that seems really non conducive to muscle gains.

Has anybody else done their quiz & gotten more realistic results? I'll link it here, if you haven't - it takes maybe a minute or two to complete.

my number is 102 but it tells me to eat 110 g a day...

My goal is also gaining... 110 sounds a bit low but still alrightish I guess

It's a load of crap and I'd disregard it.

hah! all right, then! will do. :)

yeah, now that I look at it again, it did tell me to eat 50 g even though my number is supposedly 45. still seems ridiculous to me.

It suggested to me that if my goal is to lose weight I should consume less protein than if my goal were to gain weight. Implying that protein needs go UP in a caloric surplus and DOWN in a caloric deficit. This is generally false, IMO.

I got 128, which seems alright....yet another way to make things more complicated than they are.
  • *Facepalm* This number is off. Try to get 1g protein per lb of LBM if you are trying to bulk, im almost 200 lbs and its telling me 120g a day
