Okay...describe tone.
If you are asking if it will target your butt muscles and make them bigger and fuller and stronger....then yes....to a point and then it will stop and you will need to lift weights to get the continued stronger bumm (probably within 2 months once your body becomes used to using your butt on the elliptical).
If you are asking will it shed excess fat specifically from your butt area to reveal the muscle that is being hidden from all the flabby fat...then maybe. That all depends on if your body is genetically prefers to use butt fuel verse say arm or neck fuel.0 -
Do you prefer cardio? Cause I've used ellipticals for years and never even got a butt until I started doing squats and dead lifts. It takes less time to do and I don't sweat as much.0

I know what you mean. I do that elliptical machine that lights up the parts of your glutes that it is targeting at the time on certain resistance settings for my cardio when I am at the gym. However, I do a great deal of squats and other weight training exercises as well.0

I think you'd probably be better off with some barbell squats, deadlifts and barbell hip thrusts.0

Try going backwards as well as forwards on the elliptical and you will feel the different muscles working!0

If you want DAT *kitten* you need DEM SQUATS! Get in the weight room and get good form squatting and show the bros what you're made of! Rather empowering and much quicker results.0

Elliptical is good for your cardio portion of said *kitten* building goal. But without squats you are not getting full benefit.0

Take a look at the glutes on a marathon runner? If that's the look you want, then keep up with the elliptical. If you want definition and shape, then you need to do weighted squats, walking lunges, hip bridges, etc.0

I'd say do it for cardio. Yes, it will probably "tone" your butt as there is resistance. However, if you want to see major changes, start lifting.0

I lost a lot of inches from my hips doing squat intervals on the elliptical, it burns like mad! But to get a firmer butt you need patience to add weight training.
If you're interested, this was the elliptical workout -

Repetitive movements for cardio work on muscle endurance and do little for better muscle firming. Resistance does help, but I'd say it have to be pretty high.
