New to MFP and recently diagnosed with type 2

I am having a horrible time wrapping my arms around all this.... I have attended classes etc and I am more confused than ever! It appears that with the amount of carbs I can have 45 per meal.....there is not much I can eat... Everything I hear is negative about this disease....:(

Isn't it?! You just have to get yourself educated. Talk to a nutritionist, they can get you set up with a food plan, and give you lots of examples of what you can eat. Most hospitals offer services like this, and most times you don't pay out of pocket (w/insurance). Sometimes the diabetic classes alone don't offer enough information.

I am also type 2, I was diagnosed 5 years ago, at age 31. I would definitely recommend some books. I like the Eat This, Not That series, they don't tell you not to eat a certain type of food, they inform you on what brand or style of food has less calories, fat, etc... As a diabetic, if your triglycerides are high, you'll need to lower those as well. I eat oatmeal on a regular basis, only eat fried foods when the cravings are about to kill me (believe me, it's not all that easy eating broccoli when all your friends are chowing down on french fries!). Clean out your pantry, get rid of stuff you know is bad, like potato chips, candy, etc...start small. If it's out of site, it'll be easier to keep it out of mind.

Please feel free to message me anytime, I know just how lost you feel right now!
