No fibre, no energy

Hi, all. Today I had a big wake-up call. For the last few days, I have not been feeling well. I'm dizzy, cannot focus or concentrate on anything, and feel very sleepy and lethargic. I could not work out why, and put it down to just having some sort of virus that has just zapped all my energy-both physical and mental. And then today it hit me. It's what I have NOT been eating. Let me explain: 2 weeks ago I started vegetable juicing. The nutritionist who told me to do this, said it's best to do it first thing in the morning. She wanted us to flood our bodies with all those vitamins that the vegetables provide, but not the fibre. She was very clear on that. She said ideally, green juice is all we should have for breakfast, but if we must maybe have an egg AFTER the juice. No oats or anything like that. She claims that carbs are just too heavy too bombard your body with first thing in the morning. So there I was taking her word as gospel. I stopped having my bowl of oats in the morning, and being that I am not the best veggie eater at the best of times, I thought that the juicing was at least getting more vegetables into me. It has affected me in so many ways. I have zero energy, my mind feels like I'm in a total haze, I have not been able to go to the bathroom normally in days and I am putting on weight because of that!!!! I have always maintained that I am not somebody who can go on a diet that eliminates whole food groups. And yet, without even realizing it, and actually thinking I was being more healthy, I did just that. I cut out all the things that my body NEEDS to make it function properly. I need good carbs, I need fibre. Lesson learned: Know your body. Know what works for you. What works wonders for someone else, may set you back terribly. I've started eating what I was before this, and hope that I start feeling better really soon. I'm sharing this just to make others aware that if anyone is following a diet that comes with high recommendations from others, but just does not make you feel good or better, it may not be the diet that your body can cope with. Good luck to us all.

Nutritionists are an unregulated profession. Anyone can call themselves a nutritionist.
If you want a professional opinion consult a registered dietician.
    Eat your food.

It scares me that so many nutritionists are out there giving whacky info.

they should make a doco of one person who goes to 10 fifferent nutritionists with the same complaint and record the differing advice.

    Well that was easy.

The nutritionist who told me to do this

Never again listen to this "nutritionist." If you want to speak to a professional who actually knows something about nutrition, you want to see a dietitian.

This has nothing to do with you being a special snowflake or needing something special. You had no energy and are dizzy and cannot focus because you are not providing your body - and brain - with enough energy. You are probably not getting nearly enough fat intake, and fat is essential for brain function.

This "nutritionist" is a genuine idiot and you should never, ever take his or her advice again.

That's not strictly true. Many states regulate the term nutritionist to some degree. No idea where the OP is from.

Regardless, dietitians are much more heavily regulated and being a dietitian actually requires significant education. In the US, Registered Dietitians are protected and regulated by an actual professional organization. This is not true of nutritionists.

In California, nutritionists are certified and dieticians are registered.

My partner's nutritionist would never tell him the things that the OP's nutritionist told him. Everything she told him was right in line with what MFP advocates. In fact, she was thrilled to hear about MFP because she tells her clients about it, and he is now using it to shed pounds.

I love to juice but I would never replace a meal or any of my fruits and vegetables with it. When I make juice, it is in addition to everything else. I drink it because I love the taste of homemade juice.

Don't tell this to the juicing crowd. They'll probably say you're using GMO veggies and fruits!

Honestly there's no secret. A balanced diet with correct percentages of macros for you, along with a calorie deficit will work just fine.
