Technology & Training for 5k

Ok, I realize I am going to sound dumb asking, but is there such a thing (an app or gadget) that helps you train for a 5k? What I am looking for is something that will tell you when you should run/walk and for how long and notify you when you are training...like beep at you or something. Again---I know I sound dumb. I have heard of C25k before and other training programs, but when it comes to the nuts and bolts of it, how exactly do those programs work with an app or technology/gadgets?

I sadly don't have the ability to have a smart phone at the moment, however I use my my timer function on my phone. I just set it for the number of mins the workout is suppose to be and I glance at it to help track... not the best way to do it but it works if you don't have other tech available.0

RunKeeper is a "free" app and has a 5K training feature. It is pretty neat and I think it may be what you are looking for. I hope this helps.0
