Weight Loss Apps

This past week I noticed THREE different articles, all with the basic title of "Don't Waste Your Money on Weight Loss Apps" ... I guess based on a recently released study. One statement said "these digitally-based approaches to weight loss may not be as successful as old-school diet and exercise."
Pressing buttons on an app doesn't make me lose weight? Well dang it!
I have to say, I have been pretty happy with my weight-loss apps! They help me WITH my old-school diet and exercise. They motivate me to move, allow me to more accurately track calories and make educated food choices. They give me graphs and feedback. I could do the same things without the apps, but the apps make it easier!
I had to do a blog post about it (links to the articles there) http://jenbsjourney.blogspot.com/2013/10/my-appy-place.html
Just wondering if others here feel apps are a waste, or if you find them motivating and helpful?
Which apps are in your arsenal?

If you read them more carefully, they are saying many of the best apps are FREE (like MFP). You do not need to waste your money paying for these apps.0

I agree the best ones are free (MFP *Ü*) ... but the whole tone of the articles (to me) was that apps were not helpful overall... I've been very motivated and helped out by my apps.0
