heart rate moniter

I need help choosing an affordable HRM. Unfortunately I have little money to spend but i need one that is accurate and shows calories burned. Can anyone advise me on the best bargain out there? Note- I mostly need it for my exercise bike because I have no idea how many calories I am actually burning. Thanks in advance.

  • I use the Timex Unisex T5K738.
It's $51.64 from Amazon.com. Not top-of-the-line but does what I need it to. Customizable weight, target HR, etc. Spits out data after the workout: time of workout, time "in the zone", average HR, peak HR, and calories burned. Water resistant to 30M, durable, and the chest strap is pretty comfy, even under a sports bra ;P

I have the Polar Ft4 - I love it and it is so easy to use. I think you can get it for around $60.

All I know is, don't bother with a wrist watch only type. I'm not sure they even come close to being correct. You really need the chest strap.

Proven to be very inaccurate for women because it uses the algorithms for men so it isn't really unisex. It gives exaggerated numbers for women.

My recommendation is a Polar FT4.

I recently bought one by bow flex... It was on sale at big 5 for $35 ( normally $129, not sure if it's still on sale tho :/ ) ... I love it, I compared the calorie burn to Mfp and it was very similar. It also has fat burn, hi and low zone, speed, etc
