favorite cooler weather foods

Options
The weather has gotten much cooler recently. Heck, frost is likely at least all this week. So I'm now almost constantly thinking about what yummy foods that I can make/enjoy now that I feel it's ok to run the oven. What are come of your favorite cold weather foods, healthy or not?

Chicken parmesean
Hubby's red beans and rice
Lasagna
mashed potatoes

GO!!!

Soups and stews, pasta dishes, roasts instead of steak or burgers, starchier root vegetables

Soups, stews and chili. None of those require the oven, but these are the kinds of things I like when the weather is cold.

Ditto on the soups and stews!!! I also eat a lot of fish and grilled veggies - simply prepared - just drizzled with 1 TBSP of extra virgin olive oil and sprinkled with either Italian seasonings or just fresh ground black pepper.

    chili
    spaghetti squash with meat sauce

made my first batch of tomatoe bisque- I REALLY like it- makes me feel warm and fuzzy- unfortunately it's useless in the protein department- but it is delicious.
Also that and grilled cheese- love those on a cold day!

beans and rice are totally my go too as well in the winter.

    Beer.

This time of year, it's time to start thinking about porters, and taking a break from the summer wheats.

Today, I realized just how tough things are about to be for me with the cooler weather! I'm in the South so cool weather staples for my family include chicken & dumplings, chili, potato soup, meat & potatoes, a plethora of casseroles, soup with grilled cheese.... eek!

Then, too, I have to work on the excess coffee cravings which triple as soon as the temp drops a little!

Turnip stew with pork. Not healthy. Mustard greens with pickled pork. Also not so healthy, but both are a fav since childhood.

PUMPKIN! I put it in everything- soups, stir fry, smoothies, muffins, salads, sweets. I serve them stuffed, roasted, pureed, mashed, shredded, whatever- I just love this winter vegetable!
