Big Girl Beginnings

Hi,
I have about 100 pounds to lose. I am staying within my calorie budget so far and now need to begin an exercise plan. The only spare time I have between work and home is during my 40 minute lunch hour. Would anyone be able to recommend a DVD series for someone just starting out that has proven results? I really need to lose some weight and become more comfortable with myself before I exercise away from home at this point. I truly am a beginner so please be kind and please don't recommend anything that is insanely expensive or that you yourself haven't tried. Thank you so much for your help with this!

Check your library to see if there are videos you can try out.

Jillian Michael's 30 day shred is tough, but can be done by a beginner. Some people like Leslie Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds, but I just preferred to walk outside.

Anything that will increase your heartrate will burn calories. Just find something you like and go for it!

And don't let being uncomfortable stop you. If you push yourself mentally as well as physically, you will see better results.

Not sure about videos, but if you work at a place with stairs that can really be a great form of exercise going up and down.

I started out at 5'8" and 250 lbs using Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred. I did the modified version of some exercises in the beginning and felt that it really helped me get back into working out. It is also only 25 minutes so it is a good fit if you have limited time. I also just started using HASfit.com. They have a ton of free youtube workouts, I am really enjoying the variety. Good luck, you can do it!
  • I've tried DVDs and that but I find myself getting bored easily :(

I find it easier with my hubby at the gym he helps me keep motivated :)

FitnessBlender.com is a site that offers a lot of workouts. You can choose based on time, difficulty, kind of workout, etc. It is a free site, so you aren't out anything by giving it a try!

I'm also doing Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred, and I like that too. I think that I paid less than $10 for it.

Good luck on your journey! :)

I used to use the Firm videos from the infomercials. Lost 70 lbs using those once (and then stopped working out and got complacent and we all know how THAT goes!). But now I live in a third floor condo and find it is just easier to work out in a gym so I don't disturb the family below me.
