Alot of people may doubt and even have "opinions" on water aerobics etc, but there are many advantages in water aerobics and you burn double the calories in one excercise in water as compared to land.....I have seen skepticism in my burns through water aerobics but in all reality, its working, its fun and if done with consistency, there will be results... I posted just a small fact on water aerobics and the water burn compared to the land....

dont know it til you try it and you cant judge a persons burn based on your lack of ignorance.....

Once you have developed a good technique that is comfortable for you, aim to walk or jog in the water for between 20 to 40 minutes per exercise session. Water aerobics has an added benefit: it enables you to burn up calories much more efficiently. Compare the following estimates of calorie consumption for a 30-minute workout:

Land walking: 135 calories
Deep water walking; 264 calories
Jogging on land: 240 calories
Deep water jogging: 340 calories

you can always good search water aerobics etc and gain more knowledge on the topic....

It's such a great workout because your body is working so much harder being in the water and you don't even realize just how much (until later..lol), less impact on your joints plus it's just plain fun and feels so good to play in the water, like a kid again! :)

    Big time water fan here:drinker:

No matter what type of exercise (or diet, or whatever) you follow, there are going to be people who say something negative about it! Just do what works for you! I really love Bikram Yoga. It is easy for me to stick with it because I look forward to going and do not have to drag my butt there! People say it is not a "real" workout, not cardio, etc. etc. But it works for me! So just keep doing your thang.

I do it EVERY day! I would watch the MFP calories burned, however. I found that it takes me a good 40 minutes to burn 200 cals! I highly recommend an HRM for water exercising. Once I got mine - I was so surprised! I really move and get my heart rate up to the recommended levels. I use FAST music and have a Water Exercise book that I follow to get a great workout!

I also use hydro resistance equipment, including arm and leg trainers and the barbells!

Anyone who says yoga isn't a "real" workout, has obviously not done a class, or not done the right class. LOL It's an awesome workout because it can be strength, cardio, or just relaxation depending on what you need that day.

Which HRM do you use that is safe in the pool. I've just been using MET levels to determine my calorie burns for my aqua workouts because my HRM isn't water safe.

When I was on mission in Kansas there was an olympic size pool there that I had the privelage to use privately for an hour. I am NOT kidding when I say that EVERYTIME I swam there I would see a 1.5 to 2 weight loss difference. Now, I have a lot to loose so it didn't worry me all that much. Now I'm at another mission and the pool available to me is not as big so I don't see the same results.

BUT this is what I enjoy the most about the pool exercise thing....
there are parts of my body that havn't moved that way in YEARS! lol

    Another thought,
wonder how ZUMBA would be in the water?!?!

They just started offering Aqua Zumba at my local rec center. I haven't tried it yet, but I can't wait! My teacher did the certification and she said it's awesome. She said it will kick your butt, but it's a blast.
