re: Fitbit One vs. Polar Question.

So.........I was just reading the very long forum post about the polar 300x HRM and Exercise watch.
It turns out that most of them are off, quite a lot, especially for females.
I use the FITBIT one, which was supposed to be the easiest appliance to use, as well as the easiest one to forget about (both true, so far).
I am concerned after reading the post on the Polar, though, that my device could be giving me a very skewed number, for my daily calorie deficit.
I'm nobody's fool, and going into it, I assumed that it could be off as much as 500 calories, which turned out to be fairly accurate (most of them, I understand, can be off by 30% for women).
I am not an athlete, (although fitbit thinks I am), so I am not that keen on buying yet another, more accurate, device.
I am concerned, however, that I am eating far more then I should be.
I HAVE been very careful to try and err on the side of "less is more" and consistently eat about 500 calories per day, less, then Fitbit tells me I can.
I was hoping that in combination with the manual/conscious calorie adjustment, I might be lucky enough to lose at least 1 1/2 pounds per week.
That hasn't happened, as yet, so now I am doubly concerned about how much I should manually estimate my calories down to?
Does anybody know or have experience with the Fitbit One and the appropriate adjustments to do, manually?
Thanks in advance!
