Carb question

My trainer has started me on carb cycling because I to reduce fat gain so on heavy days I'm at 1915 cals and 215g carbs and 1500 cals, 94g carbs on light days. My question is how much of these carbs should be starchy? I know pre workout complex carbs are important but other than that I'm not sure. Especially on light days. I work out in the morning so I'll have toast or oats before my workout, my simple carbs after, then should I have more starchy carbs in the afternoon when I'm pretty sedentary or stick to veggies?

Thanks

I'd ask your trainer what they'd want you to do, since they're the ones asking you to do so.

For what it's worth, I was recently diagnosed with mild Gestational Diabetes and still eat about the same number of carbs as I did before (between 125-200) but space them out differently. In the last month (when I should be gaining the most weight) I haven't gained anything. The nutritionist says I'm now eating the way we all should eat... 30 grams in the AM, 15-30 for each of 3 snacks, 30-45 for both lunch and dinner. She said for weight loss (or maintenance in my case) the timing of carbs is just as important as the source of them. It's about keeping everything stable.

Almost all my carbs come from whole grain sources, as well as a large salad. If I have a starchy carb, it's less than 1/2 of a baked potato (or the equivalents). Although I do have a Dove Dark or fun size candy bar most days of the week.

I can honestly say my energy levels are incredible since I started eating this way. I'm 34 weeks pregnant...when most women start to feel fatigued...and it's hard for me to go for a walk without turning it into a run!

Which ever you prefer. If you have no medical condition then the type and timing of your carbs is not worth worrying about.
