Tips for eating at college?

Hey guys!

I've been doing pretty well at managing my weight loss, eating better, and hitting the gym. But as a college kid living on campus with a meal plan, it's hard to know exactly what's been cooked with what in the campus's dining halls. The dining halls also make if difficult because they hardly serve anything healthy aside from some seriously overcooked veggies and a wilted salad bar.

I was curious if any of one had any tips to figuring how to eat healthy in a college dining hall?

I've been there; meal plans can be difficult because there's not always a lot of choice and rarely ever any perfect choices. A lot of people will probably say to just buy your own food to keep in your room but I know that I personally didn't like doing that since I'd already paid for the meal plan and that just seemed like a waste of extra money.

My advice would be to eat as healthily as you can without making yourself feel deprived/miserable/like eating's a chore. Look at the available options each meal and determine which is the healthiest that you'd still enjoy - try to find meats that are as minimally processed as possible (less often chose the fried, battered type things and more often the baked or plain meats if they have some), try to get in veggies and fruits when they're palatable.

Overall it's not always easy to eat as healthy as you'd like but the way I think of it is to make the best of a poor situation. Eat as healthily as your options allow without making yourself sad about it.
