These are the stats (below) for me to loose or gain weight and my goal is to loose weight. So my question for MFP members who are knowledgeable is, in order for me to drop weight what should my caloric intake be everyday? I keep seeing here that a person needs to eat ,eat ,eat in order to loose. Well this is not my case I am not taking in the amount of calories recommended for my body everyday and this is not by choice after I'm done eating I basically done. Does this mean I need to eat to the point where I reach 1667 calories per day?? if I don't then will I not loose the weight?
Right now I am only doing a 1200 calorie a day routine and once again not meeting that. Oh I have cut out bread, pasta, and rice. only meat, vegetable and some fruit.
Stats:
You need 2167 calories per day to maintain your current weight without exercise.
You need 1962.8 calories per day to reach your goal weight slowly and maintain that weight without exercise.
If you reduce your current caloric intake to 1667 calories per day you will lose one pound per week without exercise.

The word is LOSE not LOOSE weight to start with.
You don't need to cut out bread, pasta, rice or any other food. Foods don't make you fat. You don't necessarily need to eat more to lose weight but you may need to eat more to be healthy and lose weight. Hitting 1200 calories is not hard at all if you get your mind out of the idea that you are dieting. Getting 1600 isn't hard either. Just eat food, don't opt for all the low calorie items.0 -
Couldn't have said it better myself.0

When you eat too few calories your body goes into starvation mode and holds onto everything for dear life. Many times people who eat more will lose weight because their body is receiving enough nutrition. Different foods interact in your body differently. So people will loose weight when PROCESSED carbs are removed. Carbs that are in fruit and vegitables are naturally occuring so they interact with your body differently than processed flour.
My thoughts: Talk to your doctor and get a reference to see a nutritionist who can analyze your diet and make specific recommendations.0 -

wowsers lots of "NO JUST NO" in the statement above. Esp starvation mode stuff and cutting out "specific" foods.:noway:You don't need to cut out bread, pasta, rice or any other food. Lots of "YES JUST YES" in this statement though.0 -

This is not true, especially the part I have put in bold.
OP, Food is food, You can have anything you want when you want as long as you eat at a calorie deficit. It's not necessary to cut out any food, unless you have allergies, sensitivities, or your doctor tells you to do so for medical reasons.
Otherwise, everything in moderation and balance.0 -
Thanks for catching my grammatical error. It was a typo.

Different foods do have different hormonal responses in the body in regards to insulin, ghrelin, and leptin. Different diets are used for different purposes. If someone were cutting out carbohydrates, it may be to manage insulin resistance syndrome and battle pre-diabetic conditions before trying medication they might have to take for the rest of their life; we don't know and shouldn't assume that it's okay to tell them to load up on that stuff.
Different foods CAN be accessed easier biologically for quick fuel, or can be used as a diuretic or laxative, or even used to manage epileptic conditions. If someone is on a diet, let them eat what they are going to. If you think it's a mistake, let them make the mistake themselves and learn from it.0
