Up 1.8lbs this week... Water retention?

I haven't changed anything in my diet but I did start going to the gym this week and I'm definitely sore. I've been doing a mix of cardio and strength training for about an hour or two every other day. I'm eating about 1400 cals per day which I was doing well with. I know this process isn't an overnight thing and I will have my ups and downs but I'm terrified of going back to how I used to be. Does this sound like water retention from adding more exercise into my routine?

Yes your muscles retaining water is a likely explanation for the small weight gain now you've strated exercising. Its not uncommon for this to be lost in 2-3 days however also may take 2-3 weeks for it to go as your body adjusts to your new regime. don't panic drink plenty of water and keep going!0

Thank you so much! I've started drinking a ton of water this week also rather than drinking anything else. Not giving up, just needed reassurance.0
