Possible herniated disc in upperback/neck

Hello-

While I am no stranger to back pain, it typically (or at least I thought) was a pulled muscle in my back, neck, and/or shoulder. Well, this time, the pain was different, and instead of getting increasingly better as the days past, it became increasingly worse. By the 14th day of it I finally went into the doctor. I wasn't able to sleep at night because of the pain and over-the-counter pain pills didn't even touch on it. While my actual spine hurt, much of the pain radiated across my whole right side, all the way up to the back of my head. I also have tingling across my back/shoulder. The doctor suspects a herniated disc and sent me with pain pills, muscle relaxers, and some pills for the inflammation. I had an appointment tomorrow actually with a specialist (I'm on day 21- pain is still there but I'm off the strong meds) but I decided to push it back a week in hopes this magically disappears. I'm not looking forward to paying for an MRI or doing/paying for the physical therapy.

So what am I asking of my readers?

Advice from someone who has gone through something similar or has medical knowledge.

Evidence that I can lose weight without intense workouts....I know I can but I can't get it through my head.

I have always been good about working out. I run, do zumba, turbofire, Jillian Michaels, and most recently T25 (which is going back to beachbody). Food however, has been a challenge. So, with not working out, I'm doing nothing but eating and being lazy. I need to wrap my head around the fact that I have got to watch my calories if I still plan on losing without exercise. I know it's possible...isn't it 90% in the kitchen 10% exercise..or something like that? I've always relied so heavily on my intense workouts.

My husband had this happen. He did not have pain though and kind of let it go until it got really bad. When we went in medical staff were not really listening to what was wrong with my husband and never even mentioned a possible spinal, neurological problem.

As far as losing weight without exercise, people are constantly saying how they have lost weight without exercise on here. You just have to have a deficit to lose weight. I have lost the 30 lbs. I have lost so far with little formal exercise.
