Hi all

Back in July, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. It scared the crap out of me and I took the bull by the horns. I changed my diet and added exercise. I am down almost 29 pounds to date with about another 30 to lose. I would love to have support from you all and give you support back!! It's the best way to achieve this!! I am on low calorie, low sugar, low carb diet. Low carbs is hard because I used to be a carb *kitten*!!! I am now reformed. Being diabetic, there is no going back. I want to stay off meds and insulin as long as possible. Friend me if you want someone who will cheer you on. I know I would love it!!! Please tell me your stories.

I've had a weight problem for as long as I can remember. At least since I was 7 when I weighed 91 pounds. I remember my pediatrician giving my mom a diet for me to eat that year and telling them both that I would stop eating anything if she tried to make me eat liver. My dad didn't believe me and told me I would eat liver or nothing because I backtalked; I didn't eat for two days. Mom wisely threw out the diet.
Two years ago, I was diagnosed with celiac disease - and like you with diabetes - that meant a lifetime change in my diet. Unfortunately, most Gluten Free bread replacements are loaded with sugar to try to fix the taste and I gained 20 lbs. In June of this year I weighed 193 at my annual physcial. To be safely in the normal weight range of BMI, I need to get to 150 and stay there forever because I know that my knees, hip and back (all injured in a car accident at 20) feel better at that weight than at 193. In August, I decided it was time to do something for me and no one else. I've been logging on MFP since then and I am halfway to my goal. My MD is impressed and blood pressure is down to the higher end of MY normal range. I'm not sure if the higher, but not clinically high, blood pressure was due to work -- which is stress from clock in to clock out these days -- or my weight or a combination, but I am glad it's down.
Oh, I did finally find a bread that works for me, but I still eat less of it. GF bread is expensive so I use it as a treat and eat leftovers, salad or soup for lunch.
    Good luck on your journey!
