Living in a Boarding Situation, Not much choice.

Hi wonderful people. I have a longer term illness that mimics Chronic Fatigue and more major Brain Disorders, plus I actually have a Brain Disorder called Hydrocephalus too boot. Most of my joints and my back is stuffed too. I can't work either so income is low. So now that we have all that sad stuff out of the way. I am looking for inspiration and advice.

Here's the situation: Because of having little money, I have been living in boarding situations, where you pay one amount and i provides food, a bed etc. But you can see that this becomes a problem if the people you are boarding with have little options for food. They like to eat out a lot and tend to have limited lunch food, or food to make for dinner when you are home alone. I could go to the supermarket and buy more things for myself, I have done that with tins of tuna, a cheap and healthy food, but I cannot afford much more than that. I don't want to use all my money adding food to a house so I can eat more healthily, I do need to have a life too, I like to go have a coffee with friends or something. What would all y'alls advice for me? PS I live in New Zealand, food here is expensive.

You haven't given any details . Do you just want general advise, are you on a weight loss diet or what would you like to accomplish ? Do you have any dietary restrictions ? Can you cook where you live, or can you only assemble food ? A bit more information would really help.

Sorry, I assumed it would be obvious that I wanted to lose weight. I can cook my own food for lunch but I am cooked dinner with the others, so far I have only been able to eat tuna sandwiches or banana and peanut butter sandwiches. There is no salad ingredients, no vegetables, most of the time there are no eggs. I can afford a few little ingredients, but I get stumped on what to get, my taste in healthy food is fairly expensive. I would rather not go to a food bank as I am actually getting food and that is for people who are starving. I am actually not that fond of sandwiches and I can only eat gluten in small doses anyway, gluten free bread is $8 a loaf, rediculous. I know there is a solution. Any thoughts or inspiration would be appreciated.
