Hey, so i'm a college freshman and i'm roughly five feet tall and i'm pretty athletic. I usually have an on and off again relationship with the gym but i'm really trying to make it a more steady thing now. The problem is because i'm so short any bit of muscle I get makes me look bulky and stocky. I really need to lose weight/burn fat and I know running is good for that but that always makes my already monster calves turn into blocks of just grossness. If you guys could help me with tips on workouts to burn fat and lose weight with lean muscle gain that'd be appreciated!!

Possibly look into High Intensity Interval Training on something like an elliptical where you're using your whole body. Good for high calorie burn without seriously engaging muscle growth. You can set the resistance to be fairly low and keep your strides per minute quite high.
Swimming is another great alternative, of course.
If you have access to a rowing machine, that's a fantastic workout utilizing most of your body.0
