I so need support right now!

I have this wonderful weight loss/maintenance story that I am so very grateful for. At 67 I've been maintaining within a 5 lb. window 75 lbs. for over 3 years. I track calories and exercise most days.

All of a sudden I find myself at a cardiologist just to be sure I CAN do as much exercise at my age as I do. He spots an arrhythmia and tells me my thyroid meds are probably way off. He also tells me to ingest MORE salt as my bp is low and so is my blood sodium level. He suggests I change endocrinologists which I do.

The new endocrinologist agrees that the thyroid meds are too high (from blood levels). They have been for years and when I've addressed that with previous dr. he says not to be concerned (?!). So he lowers my thyroid meds to begin to find the right level which could take forever.

OMG! I'm gaining weight from nothing at all! Eating the same foods, working out and GAINING! I know I have to remember this is to help my heart be healthy but I am so down about how long this will take and how long will I be gaining? Bloodwork is Mon., results appt. is not till 11/7. So, going for a walk now and sticking to my same exact eating regimen. Soooo distressed.

As someone who does not have a thyroid, what foods are you eating or is this a guessing game? I take 275 mcg of Synthroid daily.

    Hey there.

I have that problem, too. I gained 30 pounds in the last 9 months. I changed nothing, except to increase my nerve pain drugs. Pain drugs and anti-depressants, make you fat, or so I'm told. :( They certainly de-motivate you. I had no incentive to do anything and had to push myself every day, to keep my spirits up and walk the dog, our usual route.

I am now trying to at least get back to where I was, before I increased my drugs. I've decided that my weight is more of a health threat right now, then my pain, so I've just been pushing through it, since the first.

Now, I am stuck at this weird plateau, which is, if I remember rightly, from losing weight, before, every five pounds. Sooooooo discouraging.

Well, I was hoping to get into what were my fat clothes, but even those don't fit. I have no idea what I am going to wear, out snow-shoeing. Geez.

Anyway, I can relate. I will add you as a friend, maybe we can chat about possible scenarios to beat the drug wars. lol.

i go through this, the adjustment and readjustment of thyroid meds, after losing/gaining any significant amount of weight. it is SO FRUSTRATING. just keep up the exercise, and once your thyroid hormone levels are normalized, that will be your new starting point. (hopefully it won't be too many pounds.) when i'm hypo-, i can barely drag myself off the couch, much less out the door for a walk. so, good for you for getting out there!

sorry i can't be more helpful. but i do feel your pain.
