I'm a little late with this because I've been posting here for a few days now but here goes. I was never more than mildly overweight until I changed jobs two years ago. My new job doesn't require nearly as much moving or walking and as a result, my weight slowly climbed from about 200 to 230 over the last two years.
I started exercising some and cutting back on eating in April of this year and the first 10 lbs came off pretty easily then I hit a plateau. In late June, I ran across the myfitnesspal app on my phone and have been really serious about this ever since. Wanting to lose weight quickly, I decided to only take in 1200 cals and step up the excercise. So far so good. I've lost 19 more lbs since June 28th and am down to 201. The more I exercise, the more I want to so, I'll probably have to bump up my calories to 1400 or 1500 soon. My original goal was 190 lbs but, I'll probably shoot for 175 once I get to 190. It just depends, I'm 5'11 so I don't think 175 is out of the question.
I don't take supplements or diet pills, nor do I follow a specific diet. I just count calories and before dinner I glance at my nutrients and if I'm low on something, I just make sure I include a potato or banana or broccoli or whatever, with my supper, depending on what I'm low on. So, there's nothing very scientific about what I'm doing but, it's working well so far.
Exercise wise, I do mostly low impact stuff. Since I only take in 1100-1300 cals per day, I can't really push too hard. I'll eventually increase my cals and workouts. For now, I've been doing brisk walking with some jogging mixed in, a little strength training with dumbells, calisthenics, shadow boxing, and I usually play basketball or tennis on Saturdays or Sundays or both.
I will say, being able to track and tally my food intake and exercise has helped me a lot. Glad I found this app and I'm learning some things reading this board.
