Idk what to do....

I do not know what exactly I'm doing wrong or if I'm doing anything wrong at all! I've come to realize on an average I did/do not eat a healthy amount of calories. So I started this and I'm trying to eat 1200 a day at least. I am also excercising... so what I don't get is that when I weigh in (on the wiifit board because I do not own a scale) it says that I've gained almost 4 pounds the past three days!!! This makes no sense to me and I'm so upset.
All I can see is the stupid chicken wings and the rolls on my stomach and I feel like that's all people will see when they look at me! Its frustrating! I've never been the healthiest. I will spend three days binge eating then three barely eating... I have tried stopping it... I also love exercising... but I just feel like I can't do it. That ill just be this well... its not nice... I don't want to post anuthing that'll get me in trouble... I'm just. I want to give up...

Don't expect immediate results. If you've previously had a weird relationship with food (binging and fasting sporadically?) then it might be your body getting used to you eating in a regular, normal fashion.

4lbs is nothing to freak out about. Log your food, eat your exercise calories back, be sensible, and stop making mountains out of molehills.
  • Its just frustrating, and it isn't the fact I gained four pounds, its the amount of time I gained it in :(

Body weight fluctuates all the time though. If anything, the fact it happened in 3 days almost surely points to something like water retention, rather than actually gaining 4lbs of fat.

Can't comment on how you're eating as your diary isn't open. But unless you're devouring about 10x what you should be, I wouldn't sweat it.

I'm eating /usually/ 13-1500 calories. And I try to eat healthy type foods like peanutbutter and apples or baked chicken instead of fried, etc.

What does it mean when you retain water? Like how would I get rid of it?

I use to binge and starve and slowly over the years, I built a healthier relationship with food. I started by making myself eat breakfast every day. For most people, when you eat your calories isn't important but if you have an unhealthy relationship with food, I found that focusing on balanced meals helped me overcome my starving tendencies.

I found overcoming binging has been harder. Decades later, sometimes I still struggle sometimes but overall, my relationship with food is healthier.

I think the scale may not be your friend right now. it's so easy with normal weight fluctuations to become obsessed with the scale. As others have said, weight fluctuates throughout the day and even through the week. I weight less on Mondays, my weight overall peaks by Thursday and then goes down again by Monday. I know this is how I cycle, so when I weighed myself this morning and I was 3 pounds up, I knew not to panic (also pms, so bloat too). Maybe limit weigh ins to once a week, first thing in the am, before you eat and drink, after using the restroom. I find that if I become obsessive, limiting myself like that, really helps.

    Hang in there.

Don't worry, just keep doing what you are doing now. Weight gain is normal/common when you first start a weight loss plan. When I first started to attempt to lose weight, I gained 3 kilos. Losing weight and fat takes a lot of time and patience. I originally weighed 73 kilos and now weigh around 55-56 kilos. This took about one and half years. It's been a long journey... Also your weight tends to yo-yo around when you're on a weight loss journey. For example, for weeks I wouldn't lose any weight but then 1 week later I'd lose two kilos. It's normal so relax. Also if you are weighing yourself daily, do it at the same time everyday. Preferably in the morning when you have not eaten any food. It is your lightest weight.
Don't give up, I know how you feel, at first I really hated my body and I'd avoid looking at it, but eventually I realised that it's my body and it's the only one I've got. You have to learn to accept it.

Overall just continue to exercise and eat healthily but do treat yourself once in a while. The number on the scale doesn't define health. It's how fit and healthy you are and how you feel. Never give up, every bit of effort and exercise, everyday you eat healthy and strive for health is one step closer to your goal.
  • Thank you guys for posting. I feel a little better now. I never have dieted or know the first thing about it. I guess that's why I freak out so much.

It takes 3,500 calories to gain or lose 1 lb of fat. You did not gain 4 lb's overnight. It was probably water retention. Unless you ate 14,000 calories greater than your BMR, which I highly doubt. Lol. Quit trying to rush things, or you will drive yourself insane. You may gain a little if you just increased calories, or after eating too much sodium, but it's probably just water. Eat back your exercise calories so you can quit binging and starving. ;)

I also use the Wii Fit's Balance Board every now and then and I can say it's not too reliable. You should see the line of my body weight's evolution... It's pretty much going up and down :P Get a digital scale. You can get some pretty acceptable ones for less than $30. Probably $20 if you are lucky enough to get it on sale.

Needless to mention that you must make sure to weight yourself under the same exact conditions (for example, before breakfast, without clothes on).

Oh, and with the Balance Board, make sure you always put it at the exact same spot. My Wii is in a carpeted room. So there is a 10 pounds difference when I put it on the carpet as compared as when I put a wooden board under it. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a difference between wooden and ceramic floors also.

And like NRSPAM wrote, a pound is composed of 3,500 calories, so it's nearly impossible you actually ate 14,000 calories. If your weighting conditions are adequate, I'd say it has to do with water retention caused by sodium.
