Hi, I'm Tate. 6 years ago I weighed 310 lbs. 5 Years ago I lost 100 lbs. in one year. SInce then I've learned a lot about taking care of myself, but I've never really been happy with my physique. I kept the weight off, more or less, but after a low of 209 lbs. 4 years ago I slowly zig-zagged up to 230+. My wife and I have been doing P90X, which has helped me get back on track. Now I weigh 220, but more importantly I feel amazing, am in great shape and am starting to get some muscles building.
My goal is 200 lbs, and has been since I started losing 5 years ago. I never got it, but I feel like this site is the key. to see exactly what I'm taking in each day and stay right on track.
If anyone is interested in my "secret", I'll tell you what I've told the hundreds of people who have asked over the years; The first part is food is food. Nothing else. Eating is something you have to do, to feed your body and avoid the feeling of hunger. If you can change your mindset, change what food is in your life, All of a sudden making the "right" choice becomes not only easier, indeed, it becomes the easiest choice to make. I don't feel deprived. I feel amazing. I don't need cake, or cheese cake, of peanut brittle. In fact, I need NOT to eat those things. Some people feel forced to not eat what they want. You'd have to force me to eat a big piece of cake or pie, because I'm not interested.
The second part, the part people don't like to hear, is that it's not that freaking hard to make the right choices. We know, more or less, what we are supposed to eat and what we aren't supposed to eat. You know you're not supposed to eat cookies. You know you ARE supposed to eat freash veggies. The problem comes when people convince themselves to go against what they know to be true. A fresh meal is better then processed. Wheat bread is better then white. Grilled is better then fried. Chicken is better then bacon. The list goes on and on, and we ALL know these truths.
There, I feel better.

Love your outlook TateFTW . . . you are so right . . . it isn't rocket science!
I also couldn't care a less about the things I used to crave, the few times I caved in they never tasted as good as my memory of them and it was always a disappointment.0 -
Haha, thanks. In retrospect, my first post comes across as quite cocky. If you ask my wife, that would mean I was being honest.
I've just been lurking a couple days, and hell if I have ever seen so many people overthinking what they should eat. The truth is, I do have cravings. I miss Arby's and Moe's. But instead of dwelling on the things I don't have, I focus on how I want to think and be. It's like being married. Giving up every possibility of being with any other woman for the rest of my life can't compare with how awesome it is to be with my wife.0 -
Lol! No Arby's?! That's not even all that unhealthy.
You sound like you're motivated, so, let's get to it. I'm about to go do my 1st of 5, 30 min workouts! Jogging on our treadmill
BTW: What you said about your wife is incredibly sweet...0 -
Haha, we avoid white bread like it's the plague. Arby's is also very processed. In the old days I was known to down 5 arby's melts in one sitting. I could also finish 12 krystal sandwhichs or 2 footlong subs at a single sitting.
Moe's really isn't that bad either. Good, fresh food. Just very, very large quatities of it. We love Moe's so much we actually had them cater our wedding!0 -
Welcome!!!! You will find this is a great community. People are very supportive and are all in the same boat, so to speak. Good luck!!!!0
