being really careful but gaining weight

I've been tracking my eating and exercise for almost six weeks and have been very careful with what I eat. Very little alchohol, and within my calorie limit most days. Initially I lost 6 or 7 pounds, but now I'm gaining weight! I've gained about 3 pounds over the last couple of weeks. I'm feeling very discouraged and am rapidly losing motivation. Any words of advice??
