Loose skin and lifting

There are often posts from people with a lot to lose asking about loose skin.. And inevitably there'll be advice to lift weights and that this should help. Really? Why? I imagine the advice comes from the idea that muscle will take the space of the lost fat and thus fill in the space so skin will be taut again. However I don't see how most formerly obese women will build enough muscle mass to replace the volume of all the fat they lose. Or is there some other reason this advice is given?

I, myself have read so many things on the subject, saying losing weight slowly will give skin time, lifting will help loose skin, and so on. I have heard so much, but yet I haven't seen any results. No one shows pictures to back this up, never seen someone that was over 300lbs not have lose skin. I'm in for comments on this....

Probably not formerly obese women, but lifting will make the "mommy belly" look better. I've had 3 kids. I definitely have a bit of lose skin but my muscle show through a bit making the over all look more pleasing.
