I've been painting my son's room for the past couple of days and my lower back is killing me. I didn't do anything specific to injure it, but I was feeling stiff and sore last night and it's only gotten worse throughout the day. I don't feel like I can run or bike, but I do want to do some kind of exercise. Is there anything I can do safely? Can I lift weights? I don't want to make it worse. Should I just take it easy until it feels better?

Thanks

warm up and STRETCH? it may help you loosen up.. You were probably using muscles that you don't usually use while you were painting..

Most likely, it is none-exercise related DOMS. You'll be fine biking and working out. Do some basic/light movements first to get the blood flowing and loosen up.

Thanks for the replies. I did some stretching last night and I do feel better today. Going to try and find time to get to the gym later...

Listen to your body. You only have one back. Trust me on this one, 3 back surgeries before I was 45. Defiantly do the stretching. That is exercise in itself. This isn't a good time of the year for people with back problems, the cool fronts, and large changes in the barometric pressure are a killer.
