Polar strap?

Ok so tomorrow I'm doing my 5k. The drive is an hour away, then probably two hours until the race starts. I want to put my polar strap on before leaving my house. Being new to using the polar, I wasn't sure if anyone has had issues with wearing it long before beginning exercise.

Whenever I have put mine on before leaving the house to go to the gym, I've always had it stop working by the time I get to the gym. I'm not sure which model of the Polar HRM you have, but mine is the FT7. Just my experience with it, I bought mine second hand as well and I feel like it glitches more than a new one would probably. Either way, you have about 3 hours from when you want to put it on and when your race starts, so I would probably just wait til about half an hour before your race to put it on. (You'll also have a better idea of how hard you worked during your race due to the average heart rate it will display once you're done.)

    Good luck!
  • I sometimes wear mine all day long, just to see how many calories I am burning on an average day.

I guess I should've also stated, I'm Not going to actually sync it until the race. With these big ole boobs and stopping at a convenience store to try and put it on is going to be rough

I do it all the time and have never had any issues - even several hours later. Just make sure you get it wet enough.

I would just recommend not putting on the transmitter .. that is apparently easier on the batteries.

But you can totally put on the strap hours early .. just wet your strap when the time comes.

I have an FT4 and am in the same boat. My last 5k was an hour away,as is the one tomorrow, and I put my strap and transmitter on before I left the house and simply hit start right before I took off. I had no problems with it, so will do that again tomorrow. It'll be hard to re-wet the strap given the location, plus super cold, so lifting my shirt sounds less than fun, lol...

Good luck tomorrow and have fun!

I believe this is what I'll do. Do you use water or gel? I bought the recommended gel on amazon with my FT4

I just use water and never have to rewet it.

If you wet it and then put it on you should have no problem. Something stuck snugly to your skin is unlikely to dry out very quickly. If you're concerned, you can always splash some water out of a bottle on it.
