I'm Kate. I'm 23 and I'm kind of the single most unfit person I know. I'm trying to lose a bit of weight and get to the point where I can walk upstairs without feeling that my legs will fall off.
I really have no idea what I'm doing either. This might suck.

Honey - starting is easy. Be prepared to learn a lot and, sometimes, want to give up. But the good news is, being on MFP doesn't require hard work, it just requires smart work.
Start a food diary, make it public or available for your friends (it helps when you want advice), and for about a week eat normally as you do, no changes, no dieting. After a week, when you look back, you'll see plain as day where you're going wrong with your diet. But I mean it seriously - be honest with yourself, you have to log everything. That's the first step to success.
The following week make positive changes. Replace some crap with veg and fruit, and start eating proper breakfasts with lots of protein.
Don't worry about exercise - get your food sorted first. I didn't start exercising until I felt ready, which was quite a bit of time after I changed my died and started losing weight. In fact, it was the weightloss that motivated me to exercise - I felt so powered, all I wanted to do was more, more of anything, just more.
And welcomethis isn't hard, the hardest part is being honest with yourself about what you're eating.

Walking is great for building up fitness. Just start with what you can do, and try to gradually build it up.0

I started with some little 10 minute routines on U tube that I could do at home. I had a ball, a couple of hand weights and a resistance band. Eventually went to the gym and am now alternating weight lifting days with cardio days, but it took me 8 months to get this far. Good luck :-)0
