Consuming electrolytes during or after workouts

How long is your workout and do you make a point to consume electrolytes during or after the workout? The popular position seems to be to consume electrolytes if you sweat a lot in an intense cardio or if your workouts last more than 60 minutes or so. If you agree with that assertion and do take electrolytes, what kind?

I find gatorade to be too sugary, so found MIO Fit to be a good electrolyte with no sugar.

But, do you consider it useful to take them?

Thanks

actually consuming it during your workout session would be the best option.
  • try powerade zero. it's good for electrolytes. i'd say drink anything with electrolytes in it during AND after a workout.

If my workout is longer than 45 minutes and I can get a hold of something with electrolytes than I do because it actual rehydrates you faster than just water alone. If I can't get a hold of something than I just try to hydrate more as I go. I don't worry about it after a workout bc plain old water will do just fine. There is no immediate need to rush the hydration at that point bc I'm no longer pushing my body to perform. I'll get all the electrolytes I need via food at that point to get my body back to its appropriate levels but like I said, no rush (of course if I feel like **** after that is a different story.)

My favorite kind is just whatever. About all the sports drinks are about the same. There have also been times where I take a quick break from a long run and jump into a gas station and buy some water and a can of coke and its back on the road as soon as I polish it off.

x2...it's the only sports drink we buy. i have no idea if it impacts my workouts but it gives my taste buds a nice treat between sets or when on a long-ish stint on the dreadmill.
