Stopped Losing

Options
Ive lost 2 stone using mfp but ive stalled losing weight for months
My measurements dont seem to have changed either.

my diary is open. Although I could maybe eat a little cleaner I am doing my best.

I exercise 3x per week. One kettlebell class. One pilates class the usually a home.fitness dvd or exercise bike.

I started my journey on 1200 but quickly increased to 1500. When I stopped losing i lowered to 1400. I am hungry most days but do try and stick to it.

I am female, 39, 5ft 2inches and im hypothyroid.

Any suggestions?

You really haven't lost a single pound in 2 months? I looked back 2 months in your diary and the only things that concerned me were the days you literally ate under 800 calories, which is too little, for anyone.

There was also 1 week in Sept that you didn't log at all and 1 day where you only logged 17 calories for tea. And some strange day where you logged 999 calories for lunch, so who knows how accurate that really was.

Other then that it really seems like you're taking the time to really weigh your food and have logged everything that goes into your meals.

I think maybe you should have a talk with your doctor and have your thyroid meds adjusted. Maybe your dosage has changed since you lost weight?

My only question would be measurements — Are you absolutely positive that you are accurately measuring everything you are eating? Or are you heaping thing onto the measuring spoon or nibbling on things that aren't making it into the tracker? Have you tried using a food scale? Consistency is really important when it comes to weight loss, and I know I'm guilty of letting things slip. I overate by only a few hundred calories a day last month, and I ended up gaining almost 6lbs back! The little things do add up easily, and it can cause weight loss to stall or gain to occur.

I stopped losing for a month even though I was consistently hitting a 1000 calorie deficit. I went off the diet for a little over a week and ate pretty much whatever I wanted (within reason). I then went back on the diet and have been losing like I was before.

During my off time I did gain four pounds, but that was mostly water weight due to PMS. Once I went back on the diet I lost all that plus have since lost an additional seven pounds.

    Hi Sharon :)

Would it be at all possible for you to be able to take the kettlebell class twice or even three times a week? If you can include strength training into your week 2-3x, it will really help you boost your metabolism and shrink your fat cells. Even doing a strength DVD at home in addition to your kettlebell class would help.

Also be mindful that if you create too large of a deficit between calories consumed and calories burned, it will cause you to either stop losing weight or start gaining weight for 2 reasons:
    1) your body isn't getting enough calories and thinks it's starving and holds on to every little thing you eat for protection
    2) you'll find yourself getting too hungry and that will cause you to binge and consume more calories than you should.

    I recommend:
    1) Bumping up the kettlebell class (if you can, replace pilates with it for a few weeks just to see how it goes)
    2) Changing your ratios to 40% carbs, 30% protein, and 30% fat and do your best to stay within 10 grams of those 3 numbers each day
    3) Drink at LEAST 10 cups of water a day. I see that you drink a lot of tea and even though tea is made with water, it is very dehydrating. Try to drink 2 cups the second you wake up and another cup every 1.5-2 hours. Stick to 2 cups of tea max each day.

With any or all of those small tweaks, you should see your weight start to go down again within a week or two :)

Would you be willing to eat at maintenance for a week and then drop back down? You never know it might help.

This happened to me because my maintenance calories are low now that I'm almost at my goal weight. I'm eating 1520 and I'm 5'7". My deficit is only around 300 calories a day, so there's just very little margin for error. If I go over a little bit, I won't lose. I know it sucks, but you have to lower your goal if you want to keep losing. Not losing means you're eating at maintenance.

You're hypothyroid... so are you taking medications for that? Are you seeing a specialist? I have hashimoto's, but have been 'cleared' apparently and am back to normal, so I don't *think* it has any affect on my weight, however it is a pretty common thing for thyroid issues to play with your metabolism and weight.

Cold hands/feet, fuzziness when thinking (bad short term memory, I sometimes cannot remember the name of someone when I've just answered the phone and it's horrible) and many other random symptoms. You should make sure you address this if you haven't already, because it's probably the biggest factor in there.

Just my two cents as a fellow crazy hormone lady!

If that is all sorted, then you need to be measuring, and be OCD about it. Don't cheat yourself - be honest with all you log and accept it if you go over, because it's all about learning. That being said, 1400 TOTAL is very low - check out www.iffym.com and go from there, lots of good information to calculate how much you should actually be having :)

and with that ramble, I'm off!

    good luck
