Am I doing something wrong with my butt exercises..?

First off, let me just say I'm CLUELESS when it comes to all that is exercise, so I've been following these exercises on youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9ucbo_fx64
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kq1HnakX5C8
My body is naturally slim. I have a high metabolism, and I like the way I look. Slim, toned stomach. Tight thighs. Tight arms. But my *kitten* is pretty much nonexistent. I have, unfortunately, what I like to call wall syndrome. It's just not happenin' back there.. But I'm working on it!
I just need some things cleared up:
1) Every time I do the exercises in those videos, I only ever feel the burn and soreness in my lower thighs (about an index card above my knee), around the start of my legs (where the end of your underwear would typically be), all over my stomach, and in my arms. Basically, EVERYWHERE but my butt!!! Am I doing something wrong? I mean.. these exercises are targeted toward getting a butt, so what's going on? Can someone clear up why I'm not sore in my butt? I wanna feel that burn and be sore square in my derriere, but it's just not happening!
2) I've heard that to GROW your butt and get it bigger, you have to use weights. If you're just doing regular squats and exercises without them, you're only toning. Is this true? I want my butt to be HUGE. It doesn't need toning because there's no fat to burn in that area! I have to build the sucker up from scratch!
3) I've also heard that the lower the squat, the bigger the butt. But I've ALSO heard that if you're 'breaking parallel' then you're damaging your knees.. Can someone clarify the truth here?
4) As I've stated, I like the state of my body. It's lithe and streamline. I want an *kitten* that's disproportionate in comparison. The hips, the roundness, the whole 9. But how do I do this without really working up and disrupting the other parts of my body? Because I'm so thin, muscle tends to show up on me quickly, and I find that if I work out too frequently, I can start to get the six pack thing going on, and no offense to anyone who has/is working towards that, but I'd much prefer a nice tight, toned tummy. I guess what I'm asking is, how do I maintain the state of my body now, and not bulk up anywhere BESIDES my *kitten* and hips? My thighs are nice and tight, but these exercises I'm doing are making them burn and be sore. I'm worried they're going to get bigger and my butt is going to stay the same, making me look like I have even less of a butt than I already do..
Thank you guys so much for your help!! I appreciate it so, so much.

I hope you get some good info on this. I don't have a problem in that area.0

I forgot to ask if there were any particular foods that could aid in a bigger butt!0

Thanks! And consider yourself lucky!
By the way:
I'm new to this site. Are the message boards really active or do you think it'll take a few days to get an answer?0 -

It depends, some topics get a lot of traffic, others don't. Just keep your eye on it.0 -

Best butt exercise I know.. Squats with a barbell. Lift heavy. Worked great for me.0 -
The fact that you are a guy .. makes this kinda weird.0

Did you do anything to ensure that you didn't hurt your back or your knees with the barbell? And how low did you go?0 -

I don't know why, but I read your comment in Patrick Warburton's voice. Odd. :indifferent:0 -
Mmm I would start by reading this: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/fawnia27.htm
Or: http://healthyliving.azcentral.com/increase-butt-size-4055.html
Remember, genetics influences a major part in butt shape so you have to work extra hard in nutrition, sleep, postures, and of course, exercising. I wouldn't bash myself too much over it if it doesn't work out.0 -

I am just a weak girl, LOL, seriously. My max squat weight is about 80#, but I lost some strength (bronchitis over the summer) and am just back up to 76#
I squat below parallel.
To protect my back and knees, I work on form and make sure to not let my knees go out over my toes when squatting.0 -
1. Firstly form, secondly focus on actually squeezing your butt.
2. I'd guess time under tension might apply here.
3. If you can't break parallel with proper form, then you are damaging your knees. Do a low-bar squat to focus more on the butt.
4. Maybe try hiking.0 -
Try for a really lean diet (whole grains, lots of meat, etc.). Get adequate sleep (8 hours + ), and do both a mix of cardio and weights. Try squats, lunges, stepping.
Trying to purposefully work in a calorie surplus will results in weight gain but its not guaranteed it will go to your butt. It could go to your thighs, stomach.. anywhere.
Also, bear in mind that it wont be over-night results, rather you have to work at it over longer periods of time to see changes.0 -
Glute bridge
and
Weighted glute bridge
you WILL feel it in your butt
that's a promise0 -
Google Strong Curves. There aren't any gender police :-)0

To get a ghetto booty, you have to eat a lot of collard greens and cornbread! :bigsmile:0

Strong curves is a great book with all the info you need. Marketed toward women but I found it very helpful. My lifts were really suffering from weak glutes.
To grow you glutes you will need a bit more work than what you are gonna get in the videos you posted.
To really isolate the glutes the glute bridge is great. You will need to keep adding weight and eating enough to grow muscle though.0 -
a lot of the time with body weight exercises especially, your weakest point will fatigue first... maybe you are feeling it in your legs cause they are weak and your little bitty butt is actually pretty strong.
squat as low as you can go. squat heavy. here is a good video and write up with all the valid points. http://stronglifts.com/how-to-squat-with-proper-technique-fix-common-problems/ most important, remember to push your knees outwards as you break parallel.0 -
You can't do anything about genetics it is either there or it's not. Surgery is the only thing that's going to give you something Mother Nature doesn't ouch. Just try to love yourself the way you are, thats a big lesson for a lot of people.0

This. If anything will target the *kitten* it's that one.
Also when seated...squeeze those cheeks, but kinda not together... just squeeze them. Like just tense all the muscles. That works for any part of the body actually.0 -
I don't want to be party pooper ( no pun intended) lol but you either have a butt or you don't, there isn't much you can do short of surgery ouch. Cookies always helped my *kitten* grow, so I avoid them.0
-
I don't have a butt either and I run and do yoga. I suggest this is just your natural shape. And remember a lot of women would kill for our problem. If you ever figure it out, let me know. LOL.0

Did you manage to grow your glutes any? I know I'm a bit behind the times writing on this post haha, but I believe it is possible- I used to have a non existent bum. For me, I focused on shaping my hamstrings to achieve a bigger bum. Things like stuff legged deadlifts, kickbacks with cables, normal deadlifts, and obviously normal squats were incorporated in there too. My favourite exercise for glutes are Bulgarian split squats (using the smyth machine enables you to lift very heavy)... I could swear by them. I would put the back leg up on a bench, and the front leg should be bending, but not going over the ankle. Try to not push on the back leg at all, and just squeeze those glutes:). Took me a good half a year of training to get my glutes bigger, but it was all a trial and error process, was a bit clueless at the beginning concerning diet etc, but basically, eat very clean, and lots:). Take complex carbs immediately after training, and then your protein. For any other meals, eat your protein first so that it is absorbed first:).
Hope you got your big butt that you wanted:)0 -
