Food Knowledge and Wisdom ????????????????

Hi ya MFP, I hope your having a good Sunday. As part of my healthy eating challenge I need to know more about the food I put in me. My knowledge is very limited ???? this will not help me at all to reach my goals and live a healthy life?

Where do I begin? (No I'm not about to start singing) Does anyone know of any helpful websites, books etc that can help to educate me?

Thank you for your help ????

There are so many conflicting views that it becomes hard to really know the "truth" (truth is there probably ISN'T any truth about most foods).

That said, Pub Med is a good place to look for studies on food and nutrition, though it does get rather sciency and technical. Personally, because I follow a Primal lifestyle, I like marksdailyapple.com for daily doses of food for thought on a healthy life, but it IS a Primal blog and thus might not be what you're looking for.

Honestly, most books, blogs etc. are going to be coming at food from a particular viewpoint (like the above blog which sees things through a Primal lens), so to a certain degree you'll want to try a bunch of different views to find one you like and agree with.

Maybe check out your local library? I try to use "common sense". I eat as many veggies as I can ("eat the rainbow" the more colours you eat, the more nutrients) and lean proteins, get enough fibre and water. I cook from scratch every day, because I love to cook and get to control what I eat.
I try to hit my macro goals (50/30/20 right now) and get my micronutrients from natural sources - although I do take a multivitamin just to be safe.

As long as you're under your calorie goal you'll lose weight.

In general, I eat what I want. However, I want mostly foods that aren't loadsd with added sugars and preservatives. If you really want to know about food, go to the library and check out a nutrition text book. Not a diet book, more of a.nutrition 101.
