Morning workouts

I just read an article that said you burn up to 67% more calories when you work out first thing in the morning. Why? because your body uses stored up carbohydrates over night to do normal bodily functions so when you workout first thing in the morning (before breakfast) your body has no stored up carbs to use so it has no choice but to burn fat.

Does anyone have any proof as to how true this is or any experience about working out first thing in the A.M? I have a hard enough time just getting up for work but if someone can prove that working out first thing in the AM makes a difference Id be willing to try. Anything that will help me lose weight faster I am willing to try but I love my sleep.

I don't know the science of why it happens, but it's definitely true from my experience. Like you, I have a hard time getting going in the morning. But, when I do get a workout in first thing there's a huge difference in calories burns on my Heart Rate Monitor. Pretty much if I work out after work I'll average in the 6-7 calories per minute burned. If I really push it I'll get to 8 or 9. First thing in the morning I average around 12 calories per minute.

When I do the morning workout I feel much better about eating back some of the exercise calories. And it puts a brighter light on the day if I start out knowing I have all these extra calories available. =)
  • awesome, thanks for your input. Youve lost a ton of weight, so I will definitely take your advice! Im gonna start working out first thing in the AM next week. Plus its better cuz theres no one else awake to bother or interrupt me! :-)
