newbie to weights

Any body any tips for a newbie starting to lift weights. Iv got a very basic weight bench set that i can use (il need to buy more weights as i get used to the weight ).
Im only looking to lose bodyfat not weight , im 172cm 145lbs .
The weights are at my brothers which is on my running route, so planning to do long runs (only 3miles just now but building it every week) and on weight day do my fast 1.5mile then lift.
Is this too much and should keep running by itself or is the short run a good warmup?

I've had good results with this schedule (just the exercise, not all the supplements and stuff). On week 8 now, it's easy to get into.

If you are going to lift though you should do your cardio at different times, and probably not directly before lifting as it depletes your glycogen stores and yon need those to do the weights properly. Most resources say do the cardio after or on a different day to weight.
  • Thanx very much, i did a small .75 mile run , 20 mins weights, then .89 mile run home. Going to do my linger runs inbetween as need to get fitness up for police test
