Heel pain

I've started to notice pain in my right heel, on the bottom of the heel. It's more noticeable when I put weight on it, almost as if it's a bruise, but I can't think of anything I did that would cause a bruise, so am guessing that it's not that. I didn't go to the gym for the past two days and woke up this morning with more heel pain than I had Saturday or Sunday. Any advice on what to do to alleviate or prevent the pain?
For reference- my typical work out is to walk about a mile to and from the gym, do about 40 or 45 minutes of cardio split between the elliptical and stationary bike (split depending on my mood) and then weights. I have not been putting much weight on my heel during that because of the the type of machines I use.

Check out your shoes to make sure they're properly supportive and have someone watch you walk to see whether you pound your heels. Your walk to and from the gym could be the culprit unless you have the right footwear.0

I have plantar fasciitis, which causes me heel pain and pain in my arches. You get it by aggravating the plantar fascia, which connects your heel to your toes. I hate to send you to webMD, which will surely tell you your heel pain is some for of life-threatening cancer, but they have a good write-up about it: http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/plantar-fasciitis-topic-overview
When mine is really acting up it hurts to get out of bed in the morning because I haven't used my feet in a while and that ligament isn't stretched out. I have a friend who got this from too much running. Mine really bothers me if I am standing all day, so I have to shift my weight from foot to foot. There are special socks you can wear at night to stretch it out while you sleep. I also notice mine is better when I exercise often and am getting a lot of use of my feet (although it sounds like you do that already).
You can also get inserts for your shoes to help with support issues -- good shoes make all the difference!
Hope that helps!0
