Fluctuating weight

So, I've been weighting myself in the morning before I eat or drink. Usually after I eat, I'm 131 and before I eat I'm 126. Yesterday I weighed myself at 126, and this morning I weighed myself at 124.5. I know that can't be right because you don't lose two pounds in a day, unless you're extremely obese, which I'm not. I know you're not supposed to weight yourself everyday, but I do it because the numbers have been stable until now, and also out of mild curiosity. I know it's not water weight because I always drink a lot of water. Anyone believes this is possible?

Water weight can mask weight loss when you are using a scale. I have definitely had weeks where I lost no weight according to the scale, then all of the sudden 3 weeks later I "lose" 2lbs over night.
Clearly, it isn't because I literally lost weight over night, it was because I had been losing weight all along, but extra sodium, hormones and exercising (exercise can cause water retention while muscles are healing) mask weight loss during those other weeks.
Even if you haven't been actively trying to lose weight, it's completely normal to fluctuate 5lbs on any given day.0 -
You can fluxuate in a range of about 5 lbs per week. Fluxuations are pretty common which is why they recommend the weekly weigh in.
Sodium, dehydration, amount of sleep, and even the size and time of your dinner the night before can effect the scale to some extent. I weigh daily and I see ups and downs, sometimes in the amount of a few pounds between days. I am tracking patterns by daily weighing-- its data Im getting not actual gains/losses. I only count loss when I see a new low number. I can hit a new low and then not see it again for a week or more but inches still go down. It's also a reason why the measuring tape is an essential part of tracking weight loss. Your scale is only part of the story.0 -
Thanks, this makes me feel a lot better0
