how to get six packs??

Now my BMI is at 18.0 and my body fat at 18%. But it seems like it is hard to get six packs for me.
My stomach is flat but I don't see packs yet.

any advice? should I burn more fat? or just stop cardio and focus only weight training?

I am so confused which way I should go.

Thank you.

What you reveal when your bf% gets low enough is subject to a) genetics and b) the type of training you've been doing. You may need to build more impressive abdominals for them to look like you want at a lower bf%.

You could always try going a % or two lower and see if they're going to do it for you. If not, then you'll probably need to bulk them up and cut again.

I'd focus on lowing body fat first. Try to get your BF% down between 12 - 15%. At that level, you should see what you do have there. Don't like that look, you can train the abs to bring them out.

I'm someone who has to get to 10-11% BF for visible abs...which isn't that easy to maintain year round. That's just my genetics and how I carry body fat. I've seen some guys with visible abs at a much higher BF, so you can't compare yourself to others.

As said above, just lower your BF gradually and see what happens.

i'm at 14% bodyfat and trying to get abs, i've done alot of reading and really your diet is the most important thing and working out that muscle group as well (if you wanted big biceps you'd do weight training, like a bunch of curls, same idea with abs).

But your diet really plays a big part in it.

  • Thank you very much for all replies.
Now I know which direction I should go.

I will try to maintain my current weight (105 lbs) and lower few % of body fat, and will see how it goes with focus working out on abs.
(and cut out my few piece per day of dark chocolate fruit from Costco, its hard to avoid when you open your fridge and they are just right there)
I wouldn't want big bulk muscle but just little baby packs are ok for 5'4" girl like me.

    Cheers :D

Your ab muscles are probably not big enough to show through the fat you have. You probably need to do both make the muscles bigger and lower your body fat a bit more. Unfortunately those two things can rarely be done at the same time.

ABs... Well You dont have to stop cardio, just commit 1 or 2 days to cardio if you like. Yes weight training is super important for gaining Abs. Remember, its all about how you eat. Cutting down on dairy prducts makes it faster and drinking alot of WATER!!

You must eat right and stay away from sodas and not alot of sport drinks! Its ok to have a cheat snack once in a GREAT while. But do you best to NOT take any of that in IF you serious about it.

Top Workouts for getting some ABs while eating right and drinking WATER:

    START;
    1) High Kness -at a fast pace and knees high!
    2) Regular Sit-up! (50-60)
    3) Legs Lifts - Lay down, hands under the butt, Lift Legs SLOWLY up HOLD for 1 sec then down slowly.
    4) Russian Twist - Hold a 10lb to 20lb weight and twist from Left to Right. 40-60.
    5) Mountain Climbers - 70

End it off with some jumping Jacks.

Now If you really want to see FAST results Go to the track or free run outside. SPRINT, not run but SPRINT as fast as you can.

This is based on a beginner workout.

i'm suprised no one has brow beat you into believing that heavy lifting is the only way to go.

There are a lot of ways to develop the abs, and the truth is they are all legitimate and effective.

if you're at a bf% that women typically see abs at (even though bf % is very difficult to get an accurate reading) then actually heavy lifting (compound lifts, personally thing oHP is best) might be best for you, as it should help produce some actual mass down there to help them show up.

aside from that, this program is the best, easiest to follow road map to abs IMO
