Will eating healthy be enough? Can't workout for A YEAR!

I went to the doctor because I thought my ribs were hurting due to me just starting to work out and that I must of done something stupid already but a few days ago I got told I have costochondritis. She said it'd go away in a year but I Googled it the minimum is 6 months so I hope it goes away sooner than later! Apparently working out can either have a real positive effect on you or a real negative one.. exercising has clearly shown me a negative effect. I don't struggle with being overweight I just am scared that I will get overweight since I can't work out. Will continuing to eat healthy be enough or am I doomed? D:

  • Ooh but apparently it gets better over time and the beginning is the hardest part to go through so in a few months I'll be able to walk on the treadmil I just won't be able to do anything with the upper body!

    I'm confused...did your doctor say this was caused by working out? Did they say no exercise?
    Anyway, yes, eating at a healthy deficit will keep you from gaining tons of weight.

    As long as you eat below your minimum calorie limit and try and do light physical activities like walking for 40 minutes a day, I'm sure you'll be able to lose weight.
    If all you do is eat healthy, and output no physical activiities whatsoever, you metabolism is subsequently going to be lowered
    Don't do strenuous exercise, light exercises should suffice.

    Actually eating at maintenance will keep you from gaining. Just continue to count calories and find out what maintenance is and stick with that.

    As long as you don't overdo foods that would upset your body and maintain a healthy caloric intake/limit yourself, you should be fine just fine. I wish you a well recovery, it can be tough recovering from ails of the body :(

    Bottom line is yes, eating at maintenance calories is sufficient to maintain your weight. Eat too much, and you will gain, so just track your calories and you will be fine.

    Find something you can do - like walking - if you feel the need to move.

    I'm about half way through 5 weeks of no exercise due to a surgery. Hating it, but not putting on any weight.

    I'd definitely get a second opinion. There should be a way to manage the inflammation (likely through diet) that will allow you to have some level of activity.

    That said, yes, you should be able to maintain weight on a calorie managed diet.
