See the problem is never the exact food - it's what we DO with the food. It's not the bread's fault - it's our lack of control. My things are cookies and cakes. I have to do those in moderation now. It's a learned skill, but vitally important in the weight loss/health game.

Having said all that, usually replacing a food that is used for comfort is pointless. When you really want the bread - eat it. Just use portion control. Finding a replacement doesn't work for me. good luck :flowerforyou:

Not sure on what type of bread. I would think a whole grain.

You might do some reading up on Alpha Lipoic Acid.

Interesting! A colleague swears by CLA and it seems this is a pre-cursor to it maybe worth a try. Thanks :)

When you crave bread it is known that really your body needs Nitrogene. You might try one day eating that instead of bread and see if it helps... You can get that high protein foods. So try that and see what happens :)

But a little bread isn't gonna hurt, espically after a workout. Just make sure it is truly whole grain. Look up food label education to make sure when it says whole grain, that it really is.

I LOVE BREAD! So I still eat it! ; )

I do prefer and choose brown, wholegrain bread.

Make my own (only takes a bit of hand kneading to work a slice of it off) and you get to keep out all of the added sugar and other nasties in the shop bought stuff.

If the temptation is too bad, maybe not have any in the house and allow yourself a 'roll' a day that you have to take a walk to the shop to go and get?

Whatever fits your calories or you know you won't be likely to binge on.

I stay away from fresh breads because I have a really hard time stopping at one serving. When I have bread it's usually some whole grain packaged sliced bread.

I'm a bread fiend. Love it and will eat my weight in it if it is there. Been getting better though. I portion out a lot of it and only eat that portion and savor it. Like my mother makes the most amazingly delicious beer bread and when I visited her last, she had some fresh out of the oven. I took a nice sized piece and walked away from the rest of the loaf. I would also break off bite sized pieces instead of biting into my slice. The little steps sometimes help the most. If I had stayed in the kitchen and chatted with her, I could have very easily eaten half of the loaf.

Any whole wheat bread that you can find that is high in protein and as low as possible in sugar. Whole wheats/grains usually are the way to go. You will want the protein because it will elongate the time it takes for your body to break down the carbs meaning there is a reduced chance the body will simply convert them into fat. Just spread out the bread intake, try to eat protein with it, and try to avoid eating any type of fat with it....even the healthy mono/poly fats.

Eat all the bread you please within your calorie limit. The day I stop eating bread is the day I've given up on life.

Bread is one of my weaknesses too. I really avoid it now because I have a hard time having just one. (Especially warm from the oven.......)
For the occasional sandwich i buy Brownberry double protein bread. One slice has like 10 g protein. It is really good too. I love a pb & j on it.

    lollercoaster

First, how often does DNL happen in humans?

Second, lol at the food combination theory nonsense

Third, too many carbs pre workout if you eat some bread? Sounds legit

ME TOO! I absolutely love bread!

I found a 35 calorie bread at the grocery store (Krogers), if it's calories that you're mainly focused on. It is soft and tastes wonderful.

Bread is so delicious! I now use only whole wheat grain breads, including whole wheat flat bread for my sandwich wrap during the the day.

If you want a suggestion, here it is: put the loaf of bread in the freezer. It's really unpleasant trying to eat frozen bread. Of course, it takes only a few minutes to thaw out one or two pieces of bread.
