I can't do low carb and maintain my strength training workouts at the level that I'd like. I've tried it a few times and feel like crap both in the gym and out.

I don't no, but when I started the keto diet I did get quite queasy and ate such small portions because I couldn't stomach all the fat. Now though I eat good portions and about 70% intake of fat.

If you've just started a Keto(or atkins) diet I would say try to maintain the diet for a month before jumping into heavy lifting, it takes a month for the body to adjust entirely and you will probably want to make sure you're body is good to go before doing anything too challenging.

That said, I'm not a low carb expert so I'm not 100% sure, but if you are feeling sick you should probably take it easy for a while C:

Low carb helps you shed water weight quickly due to depleting glycogen stores in your muscles. After that it comes down to cals in cals out. Having said that if you are in a deficit you may need low carb in order to hit your minimum fat and protein targets. At maintenance or surplus it is much easier to hit fat and protein and still have a ton of cals left for carbs or more fat and protein.

I never felt sick on low carb but don't lift weights. I do do alot of 40-60lb boxes at work though.
I found I lose just as much simply watching calories as when I low carbed. And when I had a cheat day on low carb it took several days to get back to losing whereas on lower calorie I usually still always lose at the end of the week. Just my two bits.

I eat low carb (between 60g - 100g) and I lift heavy. Once I got over the carb flu I was fine. It's tough to reach your calorie goals, but it's easy to hit your macros with good fats and protein. I take a woman's formula multivitamin to increase my calcium (I don't eat any form of dairy). I'm also 40lbs overweight so that might make a difference.
