Water

I have heard the mantra drink 8 glasses of water or 2lt of water, latest one half your body weight in water. Does anybody have the scientific proof that we need to drink large volumes of water, where is the evidence, who wrote it, who tested it, what was the study etc...
I am not saying we should not drink water in any way, I drink lots of water, its just I would like to find the correct information that has been collected, tested and proved.
From what I have researched and found out, this drinking set amount of water started as a marketing campaign in the 1980's when bottled water was not selling well.
I applaud those who can drink lots of water as myself I cannot manage more than 2 litres without being up in the night wanting a piddle lol

Good Lord, half your body weight? You'd get sick. Drink when you're thirsty.
An excessive amount of water can cause water intoxication.0 -
I've heard 6-12 cups a day and I've heard 8 cups and then 1 for every 10 pounds you wanna lose.
My mom is tiny and drinks 4 cups a day. I am much larger and tend to drink 6-10 more if actually hot or sweaty work out.
I believe we need x amount but that x varies by person.

I agree that it varies by person, and also by your activity levels and what you eat, as many foods contain lots of water.
It may be a tad too much information, but if my wee's a light straw colour then I'm satisfied I'm well hydrated, no matter how many glasses of water I've had.0 -
thanks everyone
that is what I was thinking, its whatever you feel is right, just interested in getting to the source of the 8 cups/2lt a day lol
