Can caffeine slow down weight loss efforts?

Nope. I've actually read caffeine is beneficial. I'm an admitted coffee and latte addict!0
-
It shouldn't. Just watch out for calorie heavy creamers, sugars, milk, etc in your coffee.0
-
Not at all.0
-
No, why would you think that?0
-
I drink two cups of coffee a day and I've lost weight.
Just drink some extra water to make-up for that caffeine.0 -
I would say it would be what you put in your coffee that would be problematic and not caffiene itself.
There is no way in hell I would ever cut out coffee from my diet.. lol0 -
Nope, I drink lots of coffee!!0
-
As someone else said on here it is the creamer/sugar that is the killer. I switched from flavored creamers and sugar to just black with Stevia. It helped cut way back on the sugar!0

I didn't have problems gaining or not losing weight while drinking coffee...but... I've had to cut back to 1 light cup of coffee a day because it's causing me to now have TERRIBLE heart burn and acid reflux! UGHHH! I miss my coffee already, but my heart burn is gone today.0

I have 1 cup in the morning and 1 in the afternoon. And I like it light and sweet. I just account for the calories and enjoy my coffee. Doesn't seem to hurt at all and in fact it helps with the afternoon dip in energy I get and curbs my appetite. YMMV.0

I love creamy sugary coffee drinks! I know that black coffee can be good for weight loss but I am trying to switch to drinking green tea instead. I found out i was drinking around 800 calories a day sometimes more.0

A venti caramel mocha frappuccino with extra whip? Without a doubt.
Americano, espresso, or standard drip? Knock yourself out. Just watch the extras.
Also watch the facial twitching. That gets fun some days...0 -
Although coffee can have some bad side effects (addiction, acid reflux, staining teeth, cancer, etc.), you can enjoy it's benefits in moderation.
It does affect your heart rate and metabolism by increasing them temporarily. It's also an appetite suppressant so it'll help between meals for you.
Like most of the folks on here said, just be careful of what you add in it.
I'd go for non-calorie sweeteners like stevia and maybe a splash of skim milk if you have to have milk instead of cream.
Other than that, just don't go overboard with it. Your body can suffer migraines and shakes if you go through withdrawals from becoming too dependent on it.0 -
Personally, I feel like it speeds up my metabolism0
-
I believe caffeine has been shown to show modest increase in metabolism. Caffeine also has a diuretic effect so it should do anything but. Now pair it with sugar, cream, milk, etc. and the calories can get out of control if you don't work it into your plan.0

there's no problem at all with having coffee / caffeine.
It's all the sugary thing that people have with it, that's often a problem.
That being said, I found a way to enjoy my coffee without it blowing my calories for the day. Hasn't hurt me a bit.0 -
just TRY to take away my coffee0
-
It can indirectly if you're old like me and it keeps you awake all night. Not getting proper sleep can stall weight loss.0

A side effect of drinking coffee is cancer?
dubious claim seems dubious0 -

I just started on regular coffee wires me until about 3pm which means I'm ta least fidgeting more which more movement equals more calories burned right? Its better than the sluggish I want to lie in bed all day feeling! As long as its in your calorie and nutrient requirements there is no issue. Unfortunately those full flavored Java Chip fraps had to go0

Only if you're getting your caffeine from energy drinks that are high in calories and added sugar or from fancy coffees at Starbucks or other cafes. If you drink black coffee or restrict the amount of cream and sugar you use, get your caffeine from teas, or drink sugar free energy drinks it absolutely will not slow down your efforts. Just don't drink it too late in the day and keep yourself up at night and make sure you're getting enough hydration as well.
Also:Although coffee can have some bad side effects (addiction, acid reflux, staining teeth, cancer, etc.), you can enjoy it's benefits in moderation.
False! For most types of cancer, coffee appears either to decrease risk of cancer, or to have no effect on cancer risk at all. Even in countries with very high intake of caffeine from coffee, such as Scandinavian countries, research does not support a link between coffee or caffeine and cancer risk.0 -
Not if you drink it light on cream an sugar. I love mine black0
-
I drink mine black, with some artificial sweetener. If it's 5 star coffee I drink it black though.
And no, it hasn't effected performance at all. On the weekends I workout in the morning sometimes, which interferes with my coffee schedule. I try to stop drinking coffee at least an hour before my workout, and also limit my intake to 1-1.5 cups and I'm fine.0 -
no. I drink it all day everyday. its a great snack and headache helper for me.0
