Asking for help

Hi all! So pretty much I have a workout routine and it calls for parallel squats, something I have never done before. I'm sure I'll be fine with the squats but the thing is, I'm not too sure how to lower the bar to get it to the appropriate height. Like, the peg thingys that hold the bar up if you know what I mean. I'm super insecure about working out in front of people because I always feel like people are judging me. Don't get me wrong, I love lifting weights but I still think people are wondering to themselves =/. Would it be dumb of me to ask someone who works there help with lowering the barbell?
