A minor victory...but it's the small things that make a big

Today could have been a disaster. I wasn't feeling well and wanted to lie around the house doing nothing. I was also very emotional and upset for a lot of today and I'm an emotional eater - I crave chocolate and ice cream when I'm sad. If this had been a couple of weeks ago, I probably would have gone crazy with a candy bar, an ice cream, probably some sweet rolls or other carbs as well... and practically zero exercise. Instead, I pushed myself harder than I thought was even possible! I finally biked up a steep, 3 mile trail that I'd been wanting to try for a while and really impressed myself with how well I mastered it! I also completed an intense 30 minute EA Active workout and ran up and down twenty flights of stairs instead of my usual ten, and topped it all off with 30 minutes of high-impact Wii Tennis (I call it high-impact because to burn more calories I constantly jump around and get really into it, even though all you really need to do is stand still and swing the remote).
The fight with my sweet tooth was a real struggle. I was under my calories for the day but didn't want to give in and have an ice cream because I had soft serve just a couple of days ago and didn't want to make it a regular habit. Still, the craving was persisting and I got to the point where I went online and started comparing nutrition facts from all the ice cream places around town to see which one would be the "best" - suffice it to say they were all really high-cal, but I really needed (yes, needed) some chocolate! Finally I got the idea to get a Dove dark chocolate bar, melt down half of it, dip strawberries in it, and eat the other half - all for a total of under 200 calories! I've got to say, I'm normally a milk chocolate person but I loved the Dove dark... so much so that I can see sticking to dark instead of milk from now on! I ended the day with well below my calorie goal - in fact, I didn't end up eating any of my exercise calories at all! So I'm pretty happy with myself, just thought I'd share :]

Way to Go!!
That is how you do it:drinker:
Seriously, you ROCK that is so very inspirational how you have changed you way of thinking about your health, keep it up and when it comes to my sweet tooth, I stay "Don't let the *kitten* grind you down" cause I think of my sweet tooth as they evil little guys that are always whispering in my ear telling me "one chocolate bar won't kill you....."
You must feel really great about yourself today, I know I would, again, WAY TO GO!! :bigsmile:0 -
Thank you so much! I don't think anyone has ever called me inspirational before, that means a lot!0

Great job! You did an amazing amount of exercise! And I really like your compromise with yourself. I think total denial of cravings can be dangerous, but working fresh fruit into chocolate definitely makes it worth your while!
Keep up the great work!0 -
I gave in to temptation today because I too am an emotional eater. I find you inspiring as well. You managed to give into your craving without blowing your diet...which I sadly did today. You have given me some virtual "no cal" food for thought. ;-) Congrats on staying in control and pushing yourself further today. Pat +2 back=You ;-)0
