Hair loss

My hair falls out a lot in the shower like a bunch of hair, it doesn't really come out at any other time but I was wondering if anyone else has the same problem or knows what the cause is? Thanks

  • we shed hair every day.. up to 100 or more.. it's normal, especially in the shower or when you're brushing your hair. if you notice any abnormal shedding, thinning, or bald spots then definitely go see your doctor to check for any hormonal or thyroid issues.

ETA or you could be having malnutrition issues as well. just peeked at your diary and noticed your net calories are almost always under goal. EAT MORE!

I looked at your food diary. I'm not an expert, but I honestly think it might be due to poor nutrition. When we don't consume the nutrients we need to maintain our body....certain things happen, like hair loss, rapid heart beat, itchy skin, etc.

Do a search here on the boards - many many posts from people eating way too little and suffering hair loss, and that's often just the start. You need to eat more.

you are eating under 1k calories. That is not going to help you have beautiful hair or skin. You are too young to have hair loss - please get proper nutrition.

    Agreed.

    Agreed with the agreed!
  • You may need to shampoo your hair differently.

I was having the same issue and when I spoke to my hair stylist he said the scalp and hair glands can get "clogged" from sweat when working out.

For the record, I shower everyday and sometimes twice or three times depending on things like workouts and the weather. I apparently just wasn't washing my hair right.

So, wash once the way you would normally to clean the hair shaft of any styling products/daily grime/etc, rinse and then with a small bit of shampoo concentrate on your scalp and work the shampoo in. This helped me and I hope it helps you.

    ETA: Oh, and eat more.

Do you have thyroid problems? One symptom of hypothyroidism is excessive hair loss.

Looking at your diary, I'm guessing you're not eating enough. Please shoot for AT LEAST 1200.

I was eating a 1,000 cal diet for 6 months and my hair was falling out, my legs were cramping, I had no energy to get through my workouts. It sucked. Major. *kitten*.

I have long thick hair and it falls out all the time and more so when I shampoo.
I could spin a sweater with all the hair I leave around.

However, I agree with the comments on your diary. You should eat more food.

I agree with all the rest of the people. Looked at your food diary .. and one day you were just over 500 calories. THAT cannot be good.

Eat more ... should resolve your problems.

I looked at your diary and read through a few of your previous posts and I see that you are aware that you are eating too little and are trying to eat more. So that's great! My advice is to read through these posts here and set a nice moderate sustainable calorie deficit that will be healthy and in line with your goals. In one post you expressed interest in IIFYM, that is covered in here as well. It is from the Eat, Train, Progress group. Good luck. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/833026-important-posts-to-read
